Dell Hybrid Cloud Dell today announced the expansion of its cloud portfolio with a new hybrid cloud solution, featuring technology jointly developed with Microsoft, designed to break down the barriers customers experience on their path to cloud. Additionally, Dell also is offering an industry-unique payment solution to help customers simplify and minimize risks associated with cloud adoption.

According to a recent Dell worldwide poll of IT decision makers (ITDM)[1], 9 in 10 say a hybrid cloud strategy is important to achieve a Future-Ready Enterprise. And, the recently unveiled Dell Global Technology Adoption Index (GTAI 2015) revealed that 55 percent of organizations globally indicated use of more than one type of cloud. The GTAI 2015 also cites cost and security as the biggest barriers to adopting and implementing cloud, and complexity is the barrier most often associated with hybrid cloud.

“The challenges most customers face on their cloud journey are clear. They tell us it’s too complex, the cost-risk is too high, and control isn’t transparent,” said Jim Ganthier, vice president and general manager of engineered solutions and cloud at Dell. “When you couple Microsoft’s unique Azure consistency from public to private cloud and Dell Cloud Manager integrated with the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft, customers now have unparalleled cloud governance and control. With our new Cloud Flex Pay program, cost-risk is all but eliminated. These Dell innovations demonstrate we’re the only company today to provide the full range of cloud infrastructure, software, services and payment solutions to help customers unlock the promise of hybrid cloud.”

Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft Rapidly Deploys in Less Than Three Hours
Extending the success of Dell’s exclusive collaboration with Microsoft on its Cloud Platform System Premium, Dell has announced the availability of the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft, which is built around the new Microsoft Cloud Platform System Standard, highlighted today in a Dell World keynote discussion between Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. This new system is designed to break through the hybrid cloud adoption barriers of complexity, cost and control.

The Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft is the industry’s first integrated, modular hybrid cloud solution. This new system delivers simplified, automated deployment and maintenance capabilities; a unique payment solution to reduce customer investment risk; and unparalleled hybrid cloud governance, control, and policy-based automation for Microsoft Azure and other cloud environments.

“Customers want to simplify and accelerate their journey to the cloud, and today Microsoft and Dell are extending their collaboration to remove many of the traditional barriers to hybrid cloud,” said Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise, Microsoft. “With CPS Standard, which is at the heart of the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft, we’ve worked together to deliver a solution that goes beyond other integrated systems on the market today, by providing Azure-consistent hybrid cloud services and a fast time to value to help customers enable their hybrid cloud strategy.”

The Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft provides customers with:

  • On-premises private cloud, with consistent Azure public cloud access in less than three hours, and minimized downtime with unified system updates that are non-disruptive, fully automated, dependency-aware and smart-sequenced.
  • The ability to build and provision workload templates and flexibly deploy business services and governance models of multiple cloud environments from one management construct, via out-of-the-box integration with Dell Cloud Manager (DCM)
  • Unified, simplified private-with-public cloud management and consumption control across Windows Azure Pack (WAP), Azure and other cloud services.

The Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft is built around CPS Standard, which combines optimized Dell modular infrastructure with pre-configured Microsoft CPS software, including Microsoft’s proven software stack and Azure Services for back-up, site recovery and operational insights. Additional services from Dell include ProSupport and Managed Cloud Services.

Dell Creates Differentiated Payment Solution for Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft
Dell today added Dell Cloud Flex Pay to its portfolio of Scale Ready Payment Solutions, which Dell uniquely designed to accelerate customer adoption of cloud solutions wherever they are on their cloud journey.

The Dell Cloud Flex Pay program provides customers with an industry-first option to deploy the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft in a flexible, cost-effective way. Dell is making this payment solution available for the Dell Hybrid Cloud System for Microsoft so customers can experience the benefits of hybrid cloud without making a long-term commitment. This cost-risk relief helps customers experience hybrid cloud usage levels before committing to the purchase.

For example, an IT decision maker may be challenged in predicting test and development usage levels. Issues such as underuse and unanticipated demand can increase investment risk, lead to services gaps and not maximize capital budgets. Cloud Flex Pay eliminates these risks, gaps and inefficiencies, enabling the IT decision makers to gain practical experience, greater certainty in planning, and make sound future cloud solution investments.

At the end of the initial six-month term, customers have several options available, including the ability to extend the evaluation period, continue to use the solution, return it or take ownership of it.

DellWorld 2015 Press Release – IoT

Dell Disrupts Internet of Things Marketplace with Dell EdgeGateway 5000 Series and New Analytics CapabilitiesExpanding End-to-End Portfolio of IoT Assets

• Edge Gateway 5000 Series delivers purpose-builtgateway with powerful analytics capabilities, expansiveinput/output (I/O) options and ability to operate in extreme environments
• Solution designed for rigors of building and factory automation sectors; signals Dell’s deep partnerships with operational and information technology organizations, including OSIsoft
• Dell Edge Gateway adds to industry’s broadest portfolio of IoT assets, spanning newly revamped Dell Statisticaadvanced analytics, hardware, digital services and security and manageability software

DELL WORLD, AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 20, 2015  Dell today announced the launch of the new Edge Gateway 5000 Series purpose-built for the building and factory automation sectors. Composed of an industrial-grade form factor, expanded input and output interfaces, and with wide operating temperature ranges, the Edge Gateway 5000, combined with Dell’s data analytics capabilities, promises to give companies an edge computing solution alternative to today’s costly, proprietary IoTofferings.

Making good decisions using data generated by sensors is the central objective of IoT. Yet the rich data generated by IoT devices presents its own set of challenges. Harbor Research estimates that by 2020 smart systems will create over 194 petabytes of data. The sheer volume and complexity of managing this new decentralized, localized data can quickly overload traditional environments and analysis tools. Edge analytics, carried out with the help of versatile gateways, will help with this data overload by determining what data needs to be acted on quickly and then filtered or stored.

The Dell Edge Gateway sits at the edge of the network (near the devices and sensors) with local analytics and other middleware to receive, aggregate, analyze and relay data, then minimizesexpensive bandwidth by relaying only meaningful data to the cloud or datacenter. Thanks to new Dell Statistica data analytics also announced todayDell is expanding capabilities out to thegateway. This means companies can now extend the benefits of cloud computing to their network edge and for faster and more secure business insights while saving on the costly transfer of data to and from the cloud.

“Organizations are struggling to make the best decisions regarding the data volume and complexity created by the vast numbers of sensors, embedded systems and connected devicesnow on the network,” said Andy Rhodes, executive director, Commercial IoT Solutions, Dell. “As more of the data isprocessed in real time at the edge of the networkthe gateway becomes the spam filter for IoT.”

Dell’s end-to-end portfolio of IoT-enabling solutions

The Edge Gateway 5000 is the newest addition to Dell’s end-to-end portfolio of IoT-enabling solutions and serviceswhichprovide customers with choice and flexibility to architect IoT ecosystems with analytics at the edge, the cloud or the data center. The gateway is available for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to build into their solutions or for building and factory automation customers to use as part of their IoT strategy which can span data center solutions, advanced analytics and digital services. Additionally, customers’ can take advantage of Dell’s global availability, trusted security options, and Dell Support and Deployment services including ProSupport which provides end-to-end hardware support throughout the entire product lifecycle, helping customers maximize their gateway environment and minimize time spent on maintenance.

For example, ELM Energy is already using Dell gateways to make a difference in securing a more sustainable energy future. ELM’s FieldSight Controller automates decision structures that toggle between the use of distributed energy sources such assolarwind and backup generators and traditional utility grid sources.  The systems also help customers make decisions about the most effective times to broker surplus energy back to the open market.

“Through the power of technology, ELM Energy and Dell are enabling real-time decision making that is optimizing and balancing power generation and maximizing the use of renewable energy,” said James Richmond, president, ELM Energy. “For example, if the renewable energy being generated exceeds demand, our technology is able to automatically decide if the excess should be fed back to the grid or stored for later use when the renewable sources are unavailable. The new Dell EdgeGateway 5000 Series is the perfect platform for our FieldSightEdge software to perform computing functions close to the source, at a fantastic value.”

Additional Dell Edge Gateway 5000 Series benefits include:

• Ability to be mounted on the wall and to operate in locations with extreme temperatures like boiler rooms and deserts
• Expansive I/O structure designed to bridge both legacy serial connections (RS-422/485, CAN bus) and modern wireless networks (Wi-Fi, 802.15.4 mesh) to the internetwith expansion capability for future options
• Operating system flexibility with choices that include Ubuntu Snappy, Wind River Linux, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise
• Security foundation including TPM, secure boot and BIOS level lockdown of I/O ports
• Manageability with Dell Command|Monitor for Linux and Dell Cloud Client Manager
• Dell is working with innovative independent software vendors and system integrators like SAP, OSIsoftEigen Innovations and Lucid to add domain expertise

DELL WORLD, AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 202015 – Dell today announced a series of new big data and analytics solutions and services designed to help companies quickly and securely turn data into insights for better, faster decision-making. These include a new release of Dell’s advanced analytics softwareplatform and new Analytics-as-a -Service offerings for multiple industry verticals such as banking, healthcare and insuranceTogether, these new offerings and capabilities enable companies to embed analytics across their core processes and disseminate analytics expertise across the organization to drive better business outcomes.

Data-driven decision-making is the pathway to competitive advantage in the modern data economy. The Dell Global Technology Adoption Index 2015 (GTAI 2015) revealed that those organizations robustly using big data show 50 percent higher growth rates than organizations that aren’t.  However, the study also found that 44 percent of organizations still don’t understand how to extract value from their datai. With the latest enhancements to its big data and analytics portfolio, Dell is helping customers overcome that uncertainty and invest wisely in data technologies by delivering flexible, end-to-end solutions that help organizations foster IT and business alignment, drive operational efficiency, and leverage the power of predictive analytics.

Launch of Statistica 13 Further Simplifies Deployment of Advanced Analytics Across the Enterprise

The launch of Statistica 13, the latest release of the company’s popular advanced analytics software platform, helps simplify and improve the process by which organizations deploy predictive models directly to data sources inside the firewall, in the cloud, and in partner ecosystems. An easy-to-use solution that requires no coding and integrates seamlessly with open source R, Dell Statistica delivers a full range of data blending, data discovery, and advanced and predictive analytics tools that help organizations tap into all data to predict future trends, identify new customers and sales opportunities, explore “what-if” scenarios, and reduce the occurrence of fraud and other business risks. Enhancements and new capabilities in Statistica 13 include:

• A completely revamped and modernized GUI for greater ease-of-use and visual appeal
• Deeper integration with the recently added Statistica Interactive Visualization and Dashboard engine for more effective communication to data consumers

In addition, emphasizing Dell’s continued focus on enabling Analytics-as-a-Service solutions, the Dell Services team has introduced Dell Service Desk Analytics and Dell ModelHealth(DMH) Tracker.

• Dell Service Desk Analytics transforms IT service desk management by enabling predictive error management and automation. It creates early warning alerts and text analytics to improve the end-user experience and reduce business disruption.
• Dell ModelHealth Tracker helps customers track andmonitor the effectiveness of their various scorecard or predictive analytics models. Particularly in industries with compliance requirements, including banking and insurance, companies use scorecards or other predictive models to predict critical outcomessuch as a customer’s creditworthiness or the likelihood of an insurance claim being fraudulent. DMH plugs into multiple data sources to track, archive and manage these models, and more importantly, monitor them for effectiveness and compliance.

These new offerings join the more than 50 solutions from Dell Services in the area of advanced analytics, including healthcare analytics offerings focused on critical issues like population health, patient readmission, and health risk stratification; financial analytics offerings focused on online transactions and fraud detection; and insurance-focused offerings centered on reducing customer churn via analytics embedded within Lifesys, Dell’s platform for insurance claims processing.

End-to-End Portfolio Simplifies Deployment and Allows Customers to Achieve Insights Faster

In addition to software and services, Dell has a history of offering engineered solutions and reference architectures that speed deployment times and time to value. These solutions are tested and validated to relieve customer pain points associated with deployment of effective data management techniquesMost recently, Dell announced its 15th reference architecture in collaboration with Cloudera, this time also including SyncsortDMX-h software. The Dell | Cloudera | Syncsort Data Warehouse Optimization – ETL Offload Reference Architecturestreamlines the planning, design, construction and deployment process of transforming data into a ready state for analysis, also known as the extract, transform and load (ETL) process, using the Hadoop data platform. The reference architecture offers customers cost savings, faster time-to-value and quicker access to insights than an open-source, do-it-yourself solution.

In addition, Dell’s ProDeploy Enterprise Suite offers customers a complete suite of deployment services and professional certifications designed to simplify deployments and help customers rapidly adopt new technology with confidence.

Since the addition of software to the Dell PartnerDirect program a year ago, Dell Software’s channel‐related revenue also experienced double‐digit growth

Dell’s momentum in its client solutions (PC) business continued during the third calendar quarter of 2014 as it registered its seventh consecutive quarter of year‐over‐year (YoY) gains in global share and grew more in the third quarter than its top two U.S. competitors combined, based on preliminary data recently released by IDC. Based on this data, Dell’s U.S. PC share is now 24 percent, a 3.1 percentage‐point YoY increase, and worldwide Dell grew its PC shipments during the quarter by nearly 10 percent YoY.

Dell is ranked No. 1 by Gartner in Worldwide IT Services for Healthcare Providers, based on 2013 revenue.

With reported significant expansion in market share, Dell Services qualified as a Major Contender in the Everest Group Banking IT Outsourcing PEAK MatrixTM report, continuing to ramp up financial services capabilities, invest in innovative technologies, form alliances, and acquire strategic targets to address the growing and complex technology needs of banks and financial institutions.

Dell Expands Global Footprint of Solution Centers for Enterprise Customers

Dell announced today its expansion plans to open a new solution center in downtown Chicago, Illinois, in early calendar year 2015. With new centers in Dubai, UAE and Sao Paulo, Brazil already opened earlier in the year, the new Chicago investment will give the company a total of 15 centers worldwide for enterprise customers and partners to easily test and evaluate broader end‐to‐end solutions and services.

Since opening its first center in Limerick, Ireland, in 2011, Dell has completed nearly 20,000 enterprise customer and partner engagements, influencing more than $4B in commercial sales. Each center’s pace of business worldwide is accelerating; in the past 18 months alone, Dell’s solution centers have hosted more than 11,000 customer and partner engagements.

Customers using Dell’s solution centers range from large enterprise and public sector organizations, to small and midmarket companies as well as Dell’s channel partners.

The centers play a critical role in enabling customers and partners to explore, develop and test the solutions and technologies that best meet their unique IT requirements, helping them to drive improved business outcomes and competitive advantage.

A key capability that sets Dell apart is its dedicated network, which allows any center in the world to connect with the others, giving customers and partners the true power of a global network to test their applications worldwide by leveraging Dell’s networked infrastructure.

Dell Pushes Disruptive Innovation to Record‐Breaking Performance Heights with Dell Research

Dell Research has developed a proof‐of‐concept solution called High Velocity Cloud that can, according to Dell’s analysis, support all the mobile device traffic in a medium‐size city, such as Austin, with only one quarter of a rack of Dell server and networking equipment.

The High Velocity Cloud optimizes standard servers for high‐performance packet processing, and enables a 20x improvement in the capability of virtualized standard servers to handle network intensive functions.

With partners, Dell Research recently set a performance record by demonstrating that, with High Velocity Cloud, a virtualized standard Dell R920 server with standard network adapters and no special hardware can be the infrastructure for a system capable of supporting 214 Gb/s of bandwidth while still leaving 90 percent of the server CPU free for running network intensive workloads.

The magnitude of disruption and innovation High Velocity Cloud can bring is exponential. For example, a service that once might have taken months to roll out could now be rolled out in minutes. This opens tremendous opportunities and will push organizations to completely rethink business models, resource allocations and product lines.
